Basically, you can just arrive and enjoy. Most people start with the giant maze, and then relax in the shade with their ice-cream (free, if they have answered the quiz nicely!) and then play on the games and puzzles in the courtyard area.

Smaller puzzles and mazes are available in the courtyard area for everyone to do:

• Green Maze – a very tricky small maze made from indigenous plants.
• 2 x Rope maze, suits everyone, Race each other over and under the ropes!
• 5 x Six-minute mazes, mind puzzles, suits everyone
• Soccer game – throw the ball into the targets
• Hoopla – an old-fashioned game of throwing rings over targets
• Labyrinth- suits everyone; follow the curving paths until you reach the center of the labyrinth. Demonstrates the difference between a maze and a labyrinth

Most people are with us about 3 hours.

Explore the Giants Mazes, Moonlight Mazes or join us for your birthday, school outing or corporate function. This is what we have to offer:

Giant Maze:
• Constructed from indigenous reed fencing and centers around 5 Secret Gardens. These garden refuges are each differently themed and planted to portray the basic elements of Fire, Water, Earth, Air, and Reflection or Thought. Each garden is a hub within the design and once found will unlock new and untraveled parts of the Elemental Maze for the players.
• The Elemental Maze is played on a multi-station quiz trail format and each team is given a clipboard, a pencil, and an answer sheet.
• There are two components to the quiz, the Garden Quiz, and the Brain Box Quiz. The Garden Quiz requires each team to complete a basic task in each of the five Secret Gardens, whilst the Brain Box Quiz requires each team to find the 10 individual quiz boards that are scattered all over the maze and to answer the general knowledge questions found thereon. Having completed their task, and in so doing having ‘solved the maze’, teams need to find their way to the exit.
• The Elemental Maze operates all year round, however, we do take it out of general play during the Maize Maze season (late Feb to late May each year) to do primary maintenance and improvements. During this time it is in reserve for when we have large groups or groups that specifically request it.

Teams take their answer sheets to the coffee shop where they are ‘marked’ and the correct answers are available. Once marked each team member will deservingly receive a free refreshing ice-cream.
• The playing time is 75 to 90 minutes. The maze is appropriate for all ages but some basic reading and writing skills will make it more fun for the smaller folk.
• No children under 16 years are allowed in the Elemental Maze without a responsible adult/parent. What makes us so different for a family outing is that the maze is as much fun for the adults as it is for the kids.

Any team caught damaging the plants or pushing through the reeds/mielies will be removed from the maze! Cheating is not tolerated! We take this very seriously! On completion of the maze, the teams answer sheets are marked, and they are all given an ice-cream as a reward for completing the maze. NO TEAMS LARGER THAN 5 PEOPLE, PLEASE!

Moonlight Maze: Bring your own picnic (no braais) and torches.
• Arrive at 5.15pm, enjoy the sunset and play on the smaller mazes.
• Everyone should be here by 5.30pm.
• We all go into the maze at around 6:15pm. Everyone must be on time, as we all go into the maze at the same time. It is great fun.
• Everyone goes into teams (4 people in a team), within your own group, or just as a couple.
• Each team is given a quiz sheet and briefed and then they go into the Giant Maze
• Children under 16 need to be accompanied by an adult!
• Any team caught damaging the plants or pushing through the reeds will be removed from the maze! Cheating is not tolerated! We take this very seriously!
• On completion of the maze, the teams answer sheets are marked, and they are all given an ice-cream as a reward for completing the maze
• NO TEAMS LARGER THAN 5 PEOPLE, PLEASE
• Generally everyone is out of the maze by 7.45pm.
• We close at 9.00pm
• At Moonlight Mazes, for security reasons we keep the gates closed and locked while we are enjoying our supper and are in the maze.

No maze is visible on the grid. The task is for all the delegates to work together to get a team member from one side of the ‘maze’ to the other. Played first as a single group and then slightly differently in teams of 4.
• Blindfold Maze : This task helps to build trust amongst teammates, encourage teamwork and teach team members to follow instructions from one group leader. The group is divided into teams of 4. One member of the team is blindfolded, one has his mouth covered and one cannot hear, as in “See No Evil, Speak No Evil, Hear No Evil’. These three will do the green maze, The remaining team member is on the outside of the maze issuing instructions and must guide his team through the maze. The leader must learn to provide thorough instructions, while the other team members need to work as a cohesive unit and follow directions.
• Teams are then briefed on the Giant Maze task (as above)

We have handled outings for Grade 0’s to Grade 12 and groups from 24 to 350! Remember that the maze and its quiz is customized to be age appropriate.

These are some of the schools that visited Honeydew A-maize-ing Mazes since February 2005! Many have brought different grades at different times of the year and some we see every year for both the amazing Maize Maze and the Elemental Maze! Consistently rated as the most fun school outing, we aim to provide a memorable event.

Kids Parties
• Parties are booked at the weekends: 10-12.30 or 2-4.30pm.
• Each party is allocated an area under a shady tree with a large picnic table and a curved bench for additional seating.
• Each party child is supplied with a fruit juice and a packet of crisps and everyone wins an ice cream on completing the maze. Parties last 2.5 hours and the party area is available to you for 3 hours, to enable you to setup before your guests arrive.
• A non-refundable deposit of R750 is required to confirm your booking. The R750 deposit represents the minimum charge for the party. The final cost of the party is determined on the day – we count the number of adults and children entering the maze, the number of adults seated out of the maze, add in any tab from the coffee shop, and subtract your deposit to get to the final cost. The balance can be settled with Master or Visa debit/credit card or cash. Please note that if the deposit is not received at least one week before the party, then no party area is reserved and we reserve the right to book another party into that time slot.

Your group will be loaded into the giant maze, takes 90 minutes, in their teams as soon as all your guests have arrived, but this must happen within half an hour of the party start time, to allow them to have fun in the maze, and for there to be enough time for cake afterwards! It is imperative that children under 16 are accompanied by responsible adults into the big mazes and you will need 1 participating adult (over 18, no 16 year old can supervise a naughty group of 9 year olds!) per team of 4 children.

Cheating is not tolerated! We take this very seriously! On completion of the maze, the teams answer sheets are marked, and they are all given an ice-cream as a reward for completing the maze. NO TEAMS LARGER THAN 5 PEOPLE, PLEASE!

Please contact us for further detailed information and to book your party date and time slot.
