One of South Africa’s top tourist attractions, SAB World of Beer offers guests a unique and interesting look into beer, covering its African and European history, the brewing process, and its economic and social impact on society throughout history.
Knowledgeable tour guides take guests through this interesting, educational and interactive tour, with beer tastings and pairings also available to guests. School tours, team building exercises and conference/meetings can all be held at this well-known establishment.
Enjoy a unique and highly interesting day at SAB World of Beer, tasting and touring to your heart’s delight. Former President Nelson Mandela officially opened the centre, delivering a memorable speech that summed up the importance of what is now called the SAB World of Beer:
“This centre will also help to remind us of a history we neglect at our peril. Inevitably, a product as integral to the culture and economy of a society as is yours, traces in its own history, the history of its society.
“People will also be reminded that, for all their hole-in-the-wall status, shebeens played an influential role in our cultural development, particularly in music and writing. This is where many of our top artists honed their talents.
“But in addition to its instructive lessons, the centre will without doubt help promote tourism in this area and in Johannesburg as a whole. It is, therefore, a valuable addition to the economic assets of Gauteng province.”

You may think you’re able to tell your favourite beer from the rest, but you could well be caught out at the World of Beer’s beer tastings. Whether you consider yourself a beer connoisseur or if you’re not much of a beer drinker at all, our experienced team will guide you through an informative, fun-filled tasting that explores the many complex flavours and aromas of beer and divulges secrets about their specific brewing processes.
Not only will you get to taste SAB’s five power brands – Castle Lager, Castle Lite, Black Label, Hansa Pilsener and Castle Milk Stout – but SAB World of Beer will also throw in one international brand to keep you on your toes. You may even find that the tasting changes your mind about what you always thought was your favourite brand.
Although you don’t have to be part of a group to take part in the beer tastings, they are ideal for team-building events, bachelor parties and birthday celebrations.
Once a month on a Saturday, the World of Beer hosts a beer-pairing lunch. This event is almost unprecedented in an industry overly preoccupied with wine and whiskey pairings, but not with exploring and creating meals that deliberately complement the multitude of flavours found in beer. Since we introduced this offering in 2015, our beer pairings have become massively popular, attracting both newcomers and returning patrons alike.
As a grain-based beverage, beer lends itself naturally to being paired with food, and even seasoned beer drinkers will be delighted by the artistic fusion of each course.
The beer-pairing lunches comprise five courses, each of which has been carefully crafted to pair with a specific SAB brand. Menus change each month, with each one offering ever more creative and delectable gastronomic delights. Guests are guided through the pairing process by an industry expert, who draws attention to the mouthfeel, flavour and aroma of each beer and how it accompanies and enhances the flavours and textures of the food.
Advance bookings are required.
