(Time subject to change due to weather & seasons)

Rise soon after the sun to a steaming mug of coffee or hot chocolate and early morning snack and catch the early activity at the waterhole from the magnificent deck. 05h30 is departure time on the morning game drive and very soon you are in the heart of the wild. Zebra, wildebeest, giraffe and a host of antelope are on the move before the heat of the sun forces them back into the undergrowth.

Just when the hunger pains remind you of breakfast, a coffee & tea stop is most welcome – don’t forget to ask for the ELEPHANT ROCK SPECIAL. An elegant table with homemade muffins are set up and the edge is taken off appetites, but not enough to spoil breakfast.

Then, back in the vehicle to continue tracking the Big 5 – back to the lodge for a sumptuous breakfast on the deck with all the trimmings. A few hours to recover – enjoy a quick nap in your suite or lounge by the pool with a glass of ice cold refreshment.

In no time, it is time for a light lunch. The complimentary Coffee & Tea station with homemade biscuits is always available for a nibble

(Time subject to change due to weather & seasons)

Perhaps the herd of hippos warming themselves on the shores of the dam, or the herd of Eland will be our first sighting. Before long it is sundowner time. What is better than a few cold drinks in the middle of the African bush? Dusk is fast approaching and it is back to the lodge. On arrival at the lodge the friendly staff is ready to welcome you back with a Sherry and a warm towel

Back to the suite where a relaxing candlelit bath awaits. Pre-dinner drinks at 7pm around the fire in the boma and an exquisitely presented dinner on the deck overlooking the lodge’s own waterhole, round off a wonderful day in the African bushveld.

Good Food, Kwa-Zulu Natal Game Reserve

Elephant Rock is proud to offer its guests a selection of dining venues. Choose from a sumptuous dinner next to the fire in the main lodge on a cold night, a traditional meal complete with roaring fire in the boma, a meal under the stars on the magnificent deck overlooking the waterhole.

Our Chefs pride themselves on the preparation of mouth-watering dishes that appeal to guests from all walks of life. Breakfast is served upon returning from a game drive and consists of a combined Continental & English breakfast & hot dishes made to order. A light lunch is served prior to the afternoon safari and a sumptuous dinner awaits guests upon returning from the late afternoon safari. Guests’ individual dietary requirements are respected and visitors are requested to advice of any special dietary requirements at the reservation stage.

Elephant Rock is the perfect facility for a celebratory getaway. Sole and exclusive use of the lodge is available. Plan your own menu, time of drive and location of meals by arrangement

Child friendly Lodge at big 5 Private Game Reserve Kwa-Zulu Natal

Elephant Rock is unlike other luxury safari destinations and welcomes families with children (regret no children less than 3 years of age – unless the lodge has been booked for exclusive use only). Whilst being a child-friendly safari lodge, Elephant Rock does not take responsibility for the children’s safety whilst at the lodge or out on a game drive and asks that parents supervise their children at all times.

Robyn Ansell’s

We are very fortunate to feature Robyn Ansell’s beautiful art in our Chalets. Most of which are available to purchase. Here’s a bit about Robyn:

I was born May 1988 in Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa. I have loved doing creative things from early childhood; growing up with artistic parents I have always been encouraged to indulge my creative side. At the same time I have spent as much time as possible doing any activity that has had relation to wildlife and/or conservation. I discovered oils as a medium in my late teens and have never looked back. Being inspired by anything that has an African feel to it I get great satisfaction from painting portraits, landscape and wildlife.

Thus far I have been fortunate enough to spend a great deal of time living and working in the bush which has enhanced my understanding and appreciation for the detail, colour and natural perfection which exists quietly and effortlessly in any part of land which is truly wild and without the influence of interference of humanity.

After matriculating in 2006 I had the incredible opportunity to live and work in Botswana’s Tuli Block which fuelled my ever flourishing passion for the wilderness at full force.

I am FGASA (field guide training course) qualified and spent2012-2013 living and working in Nambiti private game reserve as a field guide and hostess, painting in my spare time whenever possible.

I have since decided to pursue painting full time and although based near Durban, KZN I make as many trips to the bush as possible to feed my enthusiasm and creativity. My works are reflections of the love, passion and pride I feel for wild Africa and the plants, animals, colours and textures of which it consists
