Emdoneni Lodge offers guests elegantly decorated, intimate and comfortable accommodation in Hluhluwe in chalets and/or rondavels, on a bed & breakfast or dinner, bed & breakfast basis. There are mainly showers in the rooms, with the exception of two rooms which do include baths. Wi-Fi is available, free of charge, to all our guests.
The accommodation is enhanced by facilities which encourage our guests to unwind, relax and enjoy the tranquil lodge surroundings, including a boma, swimming pool and sky deck. Walk with the wildlife including Zebra, Impala, Nyala and Red and Grey Duiker. The bird life in Zululand is also abundant.
The surrounding area is renowned as a mecca for bird lovers. Some of the specials one might go in search of are: Narina trogon, Blue Crested Lourie, Mangrove King Fisher, African Broadbill, Pink Throated Twin Spot, Blue Billed Fire Finch.

It is impossible to run out of things to do in this little slice of wilderness heaven. Some of the activities at Emdoneni Lodge are visiting the cat centre, taking nature walks amongst the animals, join a game drive to the Game Reserve or book an activity for the kiddies whilst pampering yourself at our Spa!
If you feel like a day out to explore the surrounding areas, there is plenty more to do. Visit the Hluhluwe Game Reserve (around the corner from us) or Mkuze Game Reserve and take a game drive in search of the elusive and famous Big Five. If its Zulu culture and education you’re after, then visit the Zulu Cultural Village.
Those of you in search of water-based activities have the option of visiting any of the following: Lake St Lucia, Cape Vidal Snorkelling Safaris, Sodwana Bay, St Lucia Wetlands, Jozini Dam and Kosi Bay.
Spacious and elegant chalets with an authentic atmosphere to maximise comfort. Each chalet has an en-suite bathroom (shower only) and a lovely view on the garden. Two chalets adjacent to each other with a split patio.
We offer twin beds or king size beds with an en-suite bathroom. Tea and coffee making facilities are also available in all rooms.
This unique African-style, round, thatched roof is called a rondavel. The unit consists of two bedrooms, each with its own bathroom (with shower only). Each unit has an adjoining door between the two bedrooms, making it ideal for families. The rondavels have a view over the garden and it is in close proximity of the swimming pool and restaurant. The units are elegantly decorated with an authentic atmosphere. Extras: Air conditioners, ceiling fans, bar fridge, as well as coffee and tea making facilities.
The Honeymoon Suite, Windfall Cottage, is privately situated under Marula trees and offers great comfort and privacy. It consists of a lounge with DSTV, romantic bedroom, en-suite bathroom with a free standing bath, leading to an outside shower in a privately fenced Boma area. Sit and relax on your private patio, having your morning coffee or tea. In the afternoon, enjoy a glass of wine and watch Zebra, Nyala and Impala roam around the cottage. Ideal for honeymooners or for those looking for a romantic weekend away.
Emdoneni Cheetah Project:
At Emdoneni Lodge with Cheetah Project we have ambassador animals which we use for breeding and the off spring to be released back into the wild hence the reason for the low numbers of animals in our project. A maximum of 12 animals including any off spring per specie.
Join us for an up close and personal tour and learn more about South Africa’s endangered wild cat species. Come and be mesmerized by the beauty of the Caracal (Lynx), enchanted by the playful Serval, astonished by the speed and agility of the Cheetah and delighted by the African Wildcat.
View and photograph these amazing animals at the Emdoneni Cheetah Project. We offer daily educational tours, with feedings during the afternoon tour and an informative talk about the animals and the project by our experienced guides.
The aim of the Emdoneni Lodge Cheetah Project is to care for Cheetahs, Serval Cats, African Wildcats and Caracal (Lynx), which have been orphaned or injured in the wild and need care and rehabilitation. We also intend to breed successfully (where possible) with our ambassador animals and release the offspring back into their natural habitat. We pride ourselves on the many successful releases done in the past.
The Purpose of the Project:
Enable the establishment of a viable cheetah sub-population on Emdoneni Lodge with Cheetah Project.
Related to the above, to test the efficiency of re-wilding methods and procedures, and reintroduction of such animals into protected areas and other game reserves.
Raise awareness of cheetahs, caracals, servals and African wildcats, their biology and conservation status through interactions with animals that cannot be re-wilded or reintroduced into protected areas and other game reserves.
To create a wildlife awareness and education centre which focuses are on conservation and the sustainability of the Cheetah, Caracal, Serval & African wildcat.
The provision and maintenance of an environmentally friendly and aesthetic wildlife centre for selected feline species.
The management of a wildlife centre in conformance with generally accepted standards, procedures and guidelines set by the KZN Wildlife Services.
As part of our social responsibility we educate the local communities about conservation. We involve them to create an awareness of sustainability, to respect and treasure our wildlife.
We are in the process to prepare our first captivity born cheetah for a possible release. Two males born in March 2017. They are both still with mom and will remain with her until 18 months old. All 3 are isolated from the public eye, only caregivers allowed with them.
Preparing Dew, 13 months old, for a possible release in 12 months.

If you have ever dreamt of a true African wedding, walking down a grassy aisle with African wildlife grazing in the background, then this is possible at Emdoneni Lodge with Cheetah Project, where even a cheetah may pose with you for a photograph! For added convenience, it is just a short walk from the aisle at the ceremony to your reception and to our comfortable accommodation options.
It is advisable to confirm your reception well in advance as events such as weddings take a lot of planning. Tailor-made packages are available on request and your own unique wedding can be individually designed for you by our in-house wedding co-coordinator.
Our wedding co-ordinator has many years of experience and intimate knowledge of suppliers and service providers in the area.
We can advise or facilitate the appointment and management of services ranging from priests, music, flowers, decor, printing, lighting and many others, along with activities that your guests may enjoy at their leisure.
Not only is this a great cost saving option, but it also reduces the organisation required and enhances the probability of greater success and enjoyment for all.
Our air conditioned restaurant can seat up to 70 guests. If the Restaurant is chosen as the reception venue, only the buffet menu option is available.
Our boma venue is perfect for the bridal couple seeking something a little less western. The Boma has an ethnic, intimate African feel to it and can seat up to 70 guests.
