Etali Safari Lodge has earned a reputation for offering our guests a unique and personalized luxury African safari experience, wherein nature, relaxation and comfort combine to form an unforgettable memory. Stretching over 75 000 hectares of the African bush, the Madikwe contains a diverse environment offering the discerning nature lover a great abundance of life. The Wildlife viewing in Madikwe is spectacular. With a general game count of over 10 000 Madikwe includes more than 60 species of mammal and 300 species of bird.

Madikwe is in a semi-arid region with summer rainfall patterns. The climate within the reserve does not support mosquitos carrying malaria.

Summer months are warm with occasional thunderstorms, primarily during the late afternoon and evenings. The rainy season is marked by lush vegetation and the arrival of migratory birds from the northern hemisphere.

Winters are dry and cool during nights and mornings and temperate during the days.
The Madikwe Game Reserve represents a bold and successful initiative in sustainable eco-tourism. The reserve was developed in the early 1990s when 68 000 hectares of malaria-free land bordering Botswana in South Africa’s North West Province, was earmarked for development as a Game Reserve. The formation of the park was realized through a conservation partnership of the private sector, local communities, and the North West Province Parks Board.

The process reintroducing wildlife to the area began in 1992 under the codename Operation Pheonix which relocated entire breeding herds of elephant, buffalo, black and white rhino along with various species of antelope. Following Operation Pheonix Madikwe has also successfully reintroduced rarer predatory species such as Lion, Cheetah, Spotted Hyena and African Wild Dogs bringing the total large mammal population of the reserve to over 10 000. Madikwe contains a diverse environment offering the discerning nature lover a great abundance of life, including more than 60 species of mammal and 300 species of bird.
