Fordoun is situated in the green pastures of a successful Nottingham Road dairy farm, which has a history dating back to the 1800s. The original farm buildings have been painstakingly adapted into the atmospheric and gracious Fordoun Spa, Hotel and Restaurant, in a fusing of state-of-the-art leisure and spa facilities with the timeless tranquillity of by-gone days.

Fordoun combines the attractions of an award-winning upmarket boutique hotel and spa with a top-class conference, wedding and event destination and a superior restaurant. Fordoun caters for resident guests of the hotel as well as day visitors during the week at the Spa. Skye restaurant is open to the guests throughout the week and weekend however booking is essential.

The Drakensberg is a world heritage site, also known as the uKhahlamba-Drakensberg Park; uKhahlamba meaning “the Barrier of Spears”. Most of the Drakensberg Mountains fall into the Kwa-Zulu Natal province and is a mere 2-hour drive from Fordoun Hotel. Sani Pass is a popular site when visiting the Drakensberg, and leads from Kwa-Zulu Natal crossing over into Lesotho. A 4×4 is needed to navigate the tough terrain up the Sani Pass, we suggest a guided 4×4 drive, for those not familiar with South African roads.

Self or guided hikes are also a great way to experience the majestic Drakensberg Mountains and a sighting of the impressive san rock art will be well worth the hike. For sheer rock climbing or gentle easier walks, the Drakensberg is a hiking paradise and an activity not to be missed.

Fordoun Farm Village – Self Catering
The Fordoun Farm Village is built with the purpose of tapping into the Agri Tourism, leisure, and wedding market, and at the same time growing our conferencing market. With panoramic views of the Drakensberg Mountains, in a tranquil country setting, the feeling of relaxation and romance is almost tangible. 9 luxurious self-catering chalets provide ample accommodation for 34 guests. Our Multi-Functional Venue is a state of the art facility, combining a breathtaking wow affect with stunning views, while at the same time offering practicality and convenience to the guest.

Although the Farm Village is separate to the original Hotel, Restaurant, and Spa, there is a lot of synergy between the two establishments. Adults staying at the Farm Village do have access to the facilities up at the Hotel and this works both ways. The Farm Village is family orientated with activities for children being a continuous focus for us!
