Air Charters

Ghaap Air is well established in the safari tourism industry, flying adventurers and tourists to bush destinations such as game lodges and safari camps in South Africa and neighbouring countries. Our pilots are well trained and experienced in bush flying. We also use aircraft particularly suited for this role. However, many luxurious game lodges and tourism destinations have very well developed landing strips or airports. For these, and other intercity flights, we offer luxurious twin engine and turbine aircraft. Our special approach to the needs of business people is an ‘immediate on demand service’ which provide the opportunity to our clients to be swiftly on the move when needed.

Flying Safaris

Ghaap Air has a very good track record in organising flying tours and offers various itineraries over 3 days up to 21 days; covering fantastic destinations such as luxury game lodges at the Kruger Park, the Okavango Delta, Namibia and destinations like Cape Town, Victoria Falls, Bazaruto Island and many more. We can also fly you to your hunting destination and stay there while you are in the bush. And then fly you to your next destination and stay every time until the safari is finished. This not only gives you peace of mind that an aircraft is always available for emergencies, but cuts a lot down on air charter cost. Contact us if you want to fly into the bush! We’ll take you there, drop you off and pick you up, or we’ll fly you for days on end visiting the best places in the African bush!

Aerial Work

Ghaap Air offers you an aerial platform to get your job done at very competitive rates. We operate Cessna U206 aircraft which are light and economical, yet versatile and capable of carrying modern survey equipment. All our aircraft are fitted with long range tanks and has Modification Approvals or Supplemental Type Certificates for camera ports, power supplies, etc. Our U206’s are equipped with various sizes of camera ports, varying from 18cm to 48cm diameter. One also has a Modification Approval for an external mount.

Ghaap Air has vast experience in other aerial work such as aerial observation, patrols, fire control and paradropping. The Cessna U206’s large double doors can quickly be removed to give an observer, photographer or skydiver an unobscured view to the outside, making tasks like game counts, infrastructure patrols, commercial photography and drop zone operations easy.

About us

Ghaap Aviation (Pty) Ltd was established in 2005 by Jakes Theron as an air charter company, licensed for the transport of passengers and cargo, as well as for aerial surveying, observation and patrols, fire spotting, control and fighting, and parachute dropping operations. We are based in central South Africa near Kimberley, providing our services throughout Southern Africa. Ghaap Air is well established in the safari tourism industry, flying adventurers and tourists to bush destinations such as game lodges and bush camps in South Africa and neighbouring countries. We also provide air charters for business people on an immediate demand basis.

Ghaap Air also provides airborne platforms for aerial operations, particularly for aerial surveying but also for other operations such as photography, surveillance, patrols and paradrops.

Ghaap Air is based at the escarpment of the Ghaap Plateau, the sub-continental plateau in central South Africa, on average 1500 metres above sea level and surrounded by lower regions such as the Karoo and the Kalahari. Small villages such as Griquastad, Reivilo and Kuruman can be found on the Ghaap Plateau while Jan Kempdorp is near the site on the escarpment where the famous Taung Skull was discovered by Raymond Dart in 1924. Griquastad was the capital of the Griquas (Griekwas), a people of mixed blood that trekked from the Cape Colonony in the early 1800’s and established their freedom in Griqualand on the Ghaap Plateau. They gave the plateau its name, calling it ‘Ghaapse Berg’ (Ghaap’s Mountain); Ghaap being a collective Griqua word for a variety of wild edible plants found here.
