Enjoy challenging hiking trails in a gorgeous location, taking advantage of the varied vegetation, passing pristine ancient grasslands, yellow-wood forests, gorges, waterfalls. Hikers can also spot a multitude of game as well as a plethora of birds and over 109 tree species.

Hikers can choose to participate in overnight hikes with 2 to 5 day packages available. The accommodation en route is well equipped with incredible views of the surrounds. Sleep under unique sandstone formations, next to a babbling brook, with spectacular views of the sunset.

Slackpacking services are available for those who would prefer to have their possessions transported from place to place.

Arrive at the Pongola Express Camp no later than 09:30 and hike Die Bergbas Roete, 7.5km from ‘to ‘Aloe Kaya’. Day Two: The Bladdernut Track, 7.5km and join the The Milkplum Path, 5.2km to ‘Candlewood Camp’. Day Three: The Pom-pon Way, 6.3km to and join the Die Kokoboom Pad, 7km circular trail from the Pongola to where your vehicle is.

Premium 3 day trail (Pongola start/finish): R1050

The slack packing service is when staff transport your luggage between camps. You only have to carry a day pack! The crates are 38cm x 58cm x 36cm high at the smallest point or 85 litres. A minimum of 3 crates per group

The Num-num Trail hosts an annual trail running challenge and welcome trail runners throughout the year, offering specific routs for this activity.

Each of the hiking camps is a unique, beautiful and  comfortable experience. All of the camps are shared amongst campers. All the camps have indoor and outdoor braai areas and hot water.

Pongola Express Camp: This camp is renovated 1954 railway coaches. It’s like sleeping in an antique. There are 7 compartments that sleep 2 to 4 people. A wide covered veranda and indoor dining area provide a good socialising space. It has a fridge, microwave and gas stove.

Aloe Kaya: Two double story huts snuggled into the spectacular sandstone formations. Each room sleeps 8 people in bunk beds. There are ‘loos with a view’. There are two fridges, and a gas stove top plate.

Bermanzi Camp – Die Stalle: Spectacular views across the escarpment. There are four rooms with bunk beds and a cosy kitchen. There are stoves, fridges and a microwave.

Candlewood Camp (No electricity): This green camp has a wonderful view of Uitkomst Waterfall. Hot water is supplied by a wood burning geyser. There are two huts that each sleeps 10 people in bunk beds. No outdoor braai between May and October. There is a gas stove plate, and lanterns are provided.

People will be allocated huts for Aloe Kaya and Candlewood Camps Pongola Express has 7 compartments sleeping 2-4 Bermanzi / Die Salle is based on first come, first serve. As people arrive at different times please do not ‘spread out’.

There is no reception so go straight to your start/finish camp as the camps are so far apart and arrival times are varied, each camp is available and open. Facilities are self-explanatory and the trails are well marked. The Num-Num trail is a circular route and you might start your hike at any one of the four camps. Management reserves the right to change your start finish camp and to accommodate the privacy of hikers. Your itinerary will be on your invoice. There is secure parking, but you should leave all valuables at home or take them with you. Arrival and departure times from each of the camps area it is suggested be as below but the staff are flexible. Arrival time is no earlier than 14h00 and no later than 19h00 but the camps are not locked so if you come later it is fine.
