Paddle Power river rafting is a lot of fun. You have 2 people in an inflatable raft/boat and you paddle for about 5kms down the Crocodile River.

We take children from 7 years upwards. Either a parent/guardian goes with the little ones or we put them in a raft with a guide.

You are each equipped with a life jacket and a helmet. Each trip including getting kitted up, transport to where you put the boats in the water, the safety talk and the paddling takes about 2hours.

There is a halfway stop where we give you ice-lollies, give you time to swim, take pictures and depending on how full the river is, the opportunity to do the 4 metre rock jump. The decision to do the rock jump is at the discretion of the guides because it can be dangerous if the river is too low.

You don’t have to be a swimmer and we have qualified guides to take care of you all the way.

NB: No alcohol is allowed to be consumed prior to going on the rafting trip or during the trip. A drunken rafter endangers themselves, the guides, other rafters and is against water sport laws. We do not hesitate to refuse people who are drunk or un-cooperative.

Rafting Times

In high season (from September to April inclusive) we do 2 and sometimes 3 trips per day depending on demand. 9am and 2pm is our departure time for when we do 2 trips in a day or we depart at 8.00am, 11.30am and 2.30pm if we do 3 trips.

During low season (May to August inclusive) we do 1 trip per day leaving at 10am to ensure we enjoy the warmer part of the day.

What you need to bring

Abseiling

“Nothing to fear but fear itself” – Franklin D. Roosevelt

What is Abseiling?

It was in 1876 that Jean Charlet-Straton, a Chamonix guide devised the method of Abseiling (roping himself down) during a failed solo attempt to summit the Petit Dru.

A friction device also known as a “descender” allows the rope to be released in a controlled manner.

When done under the supervision of a qualified and well trained abseil supervision, abseiling is an extremely safe, most rewarding and memorable adventure that enables people to overcome their perceived fears of heights.

Abseiling with Paddle Power

Mark Gray, a qualified abseil supervisor, who has 12 years experience and has provided controlled, incident-free descents for thousands of clients with no previous abseiling experience during this period is in charge of our abseiling activities.

We do not believe in rushed, production line abseiling which is why we limit our groups to a minimum of four and a maximum of 14 people. We take children from 12 years upwards.

Mark rigs his abseils based on an internationally recognised best-practice system that can withstand forces of up to 2000kg to maximise safety without detracting from the authenticity and thrill of the experience.

Clients are attached to the main abseil rope as well as a “belay” or safety rope that is controlled by the supervisor to double-ensure your safety as you descend at a speed that you can determine using alpine rated, specialised descending devices.

We provide all gear including helmets, harnesses and gloves.  All you need to wear are caps, T-shirts, shorts or slacks and running shoes, trainers or water shoes. Closed shoes are essential as the paths are rocky.

All clients are provided with a safety briefing and basic instruction.

Most important is that we do not rush you.

Safety is paramount in an encouraging, non-judgmental environment as we help you build trust.

Our Abseiling Experience

A 15m abseil from a bridge spanning the river into a boat managed by a river guide. This experience can be combined with a 2-hour river rafting adventure and a 4m jump from an outcrop of rock into the deepest section of the river.
