Pro Dive is a PADI 5 Star Career Development Centre and we offer a wide range of underwater programs for the whole family from beginner to instructor courses, all conducted by highly qualified instructors.
The company was started 20 years ago by Louis and Michelle van Aardt who had a passion for diving and travel. Their business grew from a small outlet known as the “Red Windmill” on the beach front to the established world class diving centre that it is today.
The facility includes a purpose built heated training pool, lecture rooms, showers, coffee shop, offices, fully stocked show room, service centre & travel office to cater for all your diving requirements.
Our world class dive centre includes lecture rooms, training pool, hot showers, change rooms, show room & travel office to cater for all your diving requirements Reef and Wreck Dives:
The drop offs, pinnacles, deep gullies and an exceptional diversity of soft corals and marine life makes it a rewarding and exciting place to dive.
The accessibility of shore diving and the ease of boat diving, the close proximity of reefs to the launch site and the professional and personal care ensures that diving is a pleasure, an adventure and thrilling every time.
Algoa Bay is also on the migration route of many large mammals, sightings of Humpback and Southern Right Whales, dolphins, seals and jackass penguins are common.
The friendly city of Port Elizabeth is the gateway to Algoa Bay. White Blue Flag beaches are an inviting sight and Pro Dive operates from Hobie beach which is close to hotels, private guest lodges, B&B and various shop and restaurants.
Port Elizabeth is a large and upmarket city close to the Addo Elephant National Park and many private game reserves. It is an easy drive from Jeffries Bay and Plettenberg Bay.

Ragged Tooth Shark Dives:
The Spotted Ragged Tooth Shark is also known as the Grey Nurse Shark, Sand Tiger Shark and commonly referred to by the locals as…“Raggie’s”. They are often found swimming through the network of gully formations at various dive sites inside Algoa Bay.
Our best location is merely a 5 minute boat ride from Hobie Beach at a maximum depth of 18m making this an ideal dive for beginner divers.
Although these sharks have needle-like teeth that protrude from their jaws giving them a fearsome appearance, they are in fact a docile slow-moving shark. Their teeth are for gripping and holding their food before swallowing it whole and the mere size of a diver would not appear as a “tasty” morsel.
However, as with any animal – if provoked or harassed, they would be capable of causing harm.
“Raggie” Dive Facts:
Depth – 6 to 18 m
Minimum Qualification – Open Water
Best time: November – April
Get to know the Ragged Tooth Shark:
Raggie’s can reach up to 3m and 300 kg in size.
Don’t be surprised if you see a Raggie come to the surface and take a gulp of air …they are unlike other sharks and have a swim bladder to stay buoyant in the water.
Their diet includes bony fish, other sharks, rays, crustaceans and squid.
They migrate to the warmer waters of Aliwal Shoal and Protea Banks during the winter months to mate.
The embryos consumes unfertilized eggs and other embryos until only 2 live juveniles emerge, after 9 months.
The live young are then left to fend for themselves.
