Welcome to Rhino Post Safari Lodge

A natural extension of the bush and landscape, Rhino Post Safari Lodge welcomes you to South Africa’s iconic Kruger National Park.

Experience responsible, eco-conscious tourism, extremely comfortable affordable accommodation, and staggering biodiversity, including the highly publicized big five. Enjoy our relaxed, friendly atmosphere, and let us show you Africa’s heartbeat. Rhino Post Safari Lodge is named after a rhino rubbing post which we discovered in the area just east of what is now the car park. A resident rhino had used this tree stump to rub up against to such an extent that it had become as smooth and glossy as a lovingly polished piece of furniture.

There are a total of 8 suites, each overlooking the (usually dry) Mutlumuvi riverbed. The river flows only when there is heavy localized rainfall as its catchment is very small with the source only about 30 kilometers from the lodge. When it does flow, it is a sight to behold, but it subsides almost as quickly as it fills up. The longest the river has ever flowed for since the lodge was built is two weeks.
Activities at Rhino Post Safari Lodge are focused on game drives. An early morning game drive typically leaves at about 06h15 after an early tea and returns between 09h30 and 10h30. The evening drive departs at 16h00 and returns between 19h00 and 20h00, stopping for sundowners at sunset. For morning drives hats and sunscreen are advisable and for evening drives warm jackets (even in summertime, the temperature can drop quite rapidly after sunset).

Your guide will take tea, coffee, water, hot chocolate, rusks, and fruit on the morning drive for a morning tea stop; complimentary wines, soft drinks, water, beers, sherry, and snacks are taken with for sundowners. He (or she!) will also ask you at tea time whether there is anything else that you would like from the bar for sundowners and will pack this in for you.

Please note that in the interests of sustainable eco-tourism and the preservation of the Kruger National Park NO off-road driving is allowed. Drives take place on a combination of tarred and gravel roads. The biodiversity of the Kruger National Park is legendary, and the drives provide the opportunity to experience the changing landscape, learn about trees and some of their medicinal uses and cultural beliefs, birds, insects, and reptiles as well as a variety of mammals both nocturnal and diurnal. We love the wilderness and are delighted to share our passion, so please ask our guides questions, they really appreciate the interest is shown and the interaction.

FIVE GOOD REASONS TO BOOK AT RHINO POST SAFARI LODGE
Rhino Post Safari Lodge has been offering a chic alternative to the traditional Kruger National Park visit with exciting extra options thrown in since 2003, and what a fabulous time it has been! We have been nominated for and received awards, and developed a following of regular guests and friends that we look forward to seeing at least once a year. Some guests on their first visit are surprised by the ways in which we differ from both the standard Kruger Park experience and the trendy private lodge experience. Ninety-five percent of them love it and keep us really busy with referrals and repeat visits, and five percent of them don’t understand the differences.

Our Activities
Safari Drives
Rhino Post Safari Lodge offers early morning and evening safari drives. Safari drives are conducted in specially adapted open Landcruisers, with professional guides. To preserve our wilderness concession, no off-roading is practiced.
In addition to driving on our 12,000-hectare concession, we have exclusive use of some of the Kruger National Park public roads at night. SANParks has allowed us the added advantage of being able to utilize 170km of Park roads after gate closing time – when all the self-drive tourists have left and when the other concessions have to be back on their own property.
A typical day would include an early start, a cup of fresh coffee or tea, after which guests set out on their safari drive. Guides at the lodge meet the stringent requirements of the South African National Parks and senior guides hold the highest guiding qualifications possible in South Africa, to ensure that your encounters with the African wilderness are exciting, informative and safe.
In the late afternoon after a delicious high tea, you can enjoy an evening safari drive, winding down with sundowners, watching an African sunset and spotting nocturnal animals in the Park.
One can also combine your experience at Rhino Post Safari Lodge with a stay at Rhino Walking Safaris – our exclusive, tented camp offering an unforgettable guided walking experience, and even a night under the stars at the Sleepout Decks. These must, however, be pre-booked prior to arrival.
Sleepouts
Pre-book a night at the Sleepout decks. You will leave Rhino Post at approximately 16h00 to drive into the wilderness concession and spend the night under the stars on raised platforms. Enjoy a meal cooked over an open fire and look out for animals drinking at the waterhole below before curling up to sleep, lulled by nature’s night sounds.

Golf in Skukuza
Play a round of golf on the Kruger Park’s unfenced golf course. Enjoy sightings of hippos and crocodiles, while pitting your wits against both the 9 hole (18 tee box) course and the baboons, impalas, and warthogs that roam the fairways.

Tailor Made Birding Safaris
Pre-book a private vehicle and guide to spend time recording and photographing as many of the Kruger Park’s 529 species of birds that you can. Your guide will tailor the drives to your specifications, with focus on birds, bird identification, and time spent in different habitats to maximize your experience.

In-Room Massage
Whether you need to de-stress with an Anti-Stress Massage, recover flexibility with a Deep Tissue Massage, or just pamper yourself with a Tribal African Wrap, our professional spa treatments take place in the privacy of your own room. In-room spa therapies are available on pre-booking between 06h30 and 13h30 daily. Please book at least 24 hours in advance to avoid disappointment and confirm your treatment by 16h00 the day before.
