VINEYARD TOURS AT SPIER WINE FARM – ON SEGWAYS!
EVERYBODY WANTS TO RIDE A SEGWAY
Segway Tours and Spier Wine Farm have combined green technology, sustainability, and fun to provide South Africa’s Stellenbosch Winelands experience of a lifetime – for the whole family!
Segway Tours offers one of the best things to do in Cape Town & Stellenbosch. Voted number one most unique way of exploring the Stellenbosch Winelands. Spier Wine Farm is situated ~ only 30 min from Cape Town ~ at the banks of the Eerste River with sweeping views of the Stellenbosch Mountains and even Table Mountain.
Tour the vineyards on a Segway PT (Personal Transporter), the coolest two-wheeled way to see the Spier farm. This self-balancing electric vehicle will help you glide through the vineyards, past our Protea Garden and Biodynamic farming area where we will share some interesting facts.
At Segway Tours, we pride ourselves on having one of the most comprehensive training routines in the Segway business.
We ensure that Segway riders are fully confident and all have the ability to ride the farm and off-road terrain to enjoy their Stellenbosch Winelands experience.
Training sessions last for approximately 20 – 30 minutes before we head off into the farm and vineyards. Q. What does riding a Segway x2 feel like?
A. Riding the Segway feels like nothing you’ve ever experienced because there’s never been anything like it. Step on and your instinct will be to steady yourself, as you would on anything with two wheels. But almost immediately you’ll realize that the Segway is balancing for you, almost like it has become an extension of you. Just lean forward a little and you’ll see that the Segway isn’t moving you on its own; it’s moving in response to you and what you tell it to do. It all feels natural and really cool.
Q. How does it move? How does it balance?
A. The Segway x2 uses LeanSteer™ Technology to move you from Point A to B. Gently move the LeanSteer frame and handlebar left or right in the direction you want to travel and feel the machine respond almost instantly. The Segway x2 balances by using five micro-machined angular rate sensors and two accelerometers that sense the changing terrain and your body position at 100 times per second.
Q. Are there weight and Age limits for the Segway x2?
A. Yes, Segway sets weight limits for rider safety and to reduce the risk of damage to the Segway x2. A rider must not be less than 45 kg. The maximum payload (which includes rider and all cargo) for the Segway x2 is 117 kg. The total weight of any handlebar cargo plus any additional attachments hanging from the handlebar should not exceed 4.5 kg.

Spier Wine Farm Tour (1 hour) – no children under 10 years of age.
Q. Can 2 people ride on the same Segway?
A.No, strictly 1 person per Segway at all times. This means children cannot be carried with you whilst you are riding a Segway.
Q. Do I need to be physically fit to ride a Segway?
A. No, but you do need to be able to comfortably & quickly step on/off the Segway, so this activity would not be suitable for those with injuries/impairments to foot, leg, hips, back, neck, arm or hands.
Q. How fast can the Segway x2 travel?
A. Each Segway x2 comes with two operational settings, “beginner” and “standard”. Beginner setting is set to 13kph, and the standard setting is set to 20kph.
Q. How far can a Segway x2 go on a single charge?
A. Depending on your base model, payload, riding style, and terrain, a single charge can support up to 38 km. of travel. You’ll be amazed at just how far that really is.
Q. Can I use the Segway x2 in the rain?
A. Yes. The device is completely sealed to allow it to operate in wet weather, splash through puddles and ride on wet grass. Just be careful on slippery surfaces.
Q. Is the Segway x2 more efficient than a car?
A. Yes. The Segway x2 is 11 times more efficient than the average American car, and over three times more efficient than even the highest-mileage scooters. As a zero-emissions vehicle, the Segway x2 can also go indoors. It does draw electric power during recharge, but that electricity causes fourteen times less greenhouse gas emissions than driving a car.
Q. What Language are the tours?
A. All training instructions & tour information is given in English.
