Simonstown Boat Company

When we claim to be the most established charter company in Simon's Town it goes far beyond our many years of operation, or that boats exceed government safety regulations, or even that we're only company to have built a safe boarding marina.

Welcome

Simon’s Town Boat Company invites you to share the most beautiful bay in the world with us. We operate 4 custom designed vessels, skippered by highly qualified crew and all our tours are accompanied by an expert commentary.

Simon’s Town Boat Company invites you to share the most beautiful bay (False Bay) in the world with us. We operate 4 custom designed vessels and all our tours are presented by expert skippers & highly qualified guides & a marine biologist (whale watching trips).

The Western half of False Bay – stretching from Strandfontein all the way to Cape Point is one of the finest boat based whale & Dolphin watching sites in South Africa. This area is sheltered from the open ocean, surrounded by stunning views & provides an ideal winter home for the Southern Right Whales. They visit each year between June & November to mate, calve, or simply to get away from the icy Antarctic winter. Interacting with these gigantic & magnificent mammals (the size of 12 elephants) alongside our boat is an experience that will stay with you for the rest of your life. Be ready to photograph one breaching or giving you a friendly wave with its tail! Sightings of Brydes whales, Humpback whales, and Dolphins are also common.

We also offer year round Seal Island trips (daily), Cape Point boat cruises, Adrenaline Boat Rides, and Harbour cruises. The Real Seal Island

Situated only 8 nautical miles (about 16kms) from Simon’s Town, Seal Island is home to 75,000 Cape Fur Seals, 24 different bird species and the hunting ground of the Great White Shark.

En route to the island the views are truly spectacular, with Cape Point in the distance to your right, Table Mountain and the Constantia wine route to your left and ahead, the majestic Hottentot’s Holland mountain range.

All year round we often encounter Dolphins, Humpback whales and Brydes whales. From July to November the Southern Right whales are plentiful in the bay and you can be assured of a sighting.

During the winter months the Great White Sharks are extremely active around the island and we enjoy many sightings and often witness natural predations.

The main breeding season for the Cape Fur Seal is November and December when almost 20 000 pups are born.

The cruise also includes an expert guided commentary.

This tour is operated from our marina by Ocean View Masiphumelele Fishing (PTY) Ltd. who is the sole permit holder for boat based whale watching in False Bay (Permit No. 0806336).

Cape Point – Where two great oceans mix

Described by Sir Francis Drake as the “Fairest Cape in the whole circumference of the world” and you’ll definitely agree once you have experienced our magnificent guided cruise.

This cruise offers everything from whales (in season), exploring ocean caves, stunning cliff faces and the most spectacular view of Cape Point from offshore. You will also see many different bird species or may even meet up with a school of dolphins on the way.

Our skipper has many stories to relate, from the building of the most powerful lighthouse in Africa, shipwrecks, maritime tradition, an escaped slave who took shelter in a cave at Cape Point and many more.

On our return to Simon’s Town we stop off at the Boulder’s to view the African Penguin colony from the seaward side.
