“Skydivers have more fun than people”…

Skydive Mossel Bay is situated on the beautiful South Coast of South Africa, on the scenic Garden Route half way between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. We are only 30 minutes from George and 40 minutes from Oudtshoorn.

Our skydiving drop zone is the local airfield, less than 5km from the beach. Undisputedly the best scenery of all drop zones in South Africa.

We have coaches for various disciplines and we encourage you to bring your team and even your own coach should you wish to do so. Our 7 day a week dropzone and great weather will maximize your training time and our twin engine turbine aircraft will whisk you to great altitudes in no time. About our skydive drop zone:
Aircraft:
Our trusty Cessna 182 (4 jumpers/load) will take you to 10 000ft in +-22 minutes. The Cessna is a popular single engine skydiving aircraft.
Our fast King Air twin turbine aircraft climbs to 12,000ft in around 10 minutes and can accommodate 14 jumpers per load. It feels like being in a rocket and you’ll fall in love with the sound of the engines.
Hangar & Packing Area:
A neat hangar (200 square meters) and lawn (200 square meters) provides ample space to pack and get organized during jumping.
There are tables and benches outside where you can watch your friends land or have something to eat or drink while you wait.
There is a male and female bathroom and toilet in the hangar.

Landing Sites:
We have a large and safe landing area (approx. 600m x 300m) on the airfield with plenty of zap area and hardly any obstacles. There is also a large separate designated student landing area.
On a nice day you can elect to land on the beach at Diaz Beach in Mossel Bay, about 10 minutes away from the drop zone.
Qualified experienced jumpers are permitted to land at the beach close by, by prior arrangement and with approval from an instructor.

Canteen, Restaurant & Bar facilities:
A neat clubhouse with excellent restaurant facilities and a fully stocked bar provides ample opportunity to relax in between jumping. The restaurant serves breakfast and lunch and it is open until 5pm.

Mossel Bay:
Mossel Bay is an ideal adventure holiday destination with a wide variety of accommodation and activities. There is so much to do like game drives, shark cage diving, sand boarding on the dunes, snorkelling, boat rides, whale watching and more.
You can visit The Pinnacle Point Caves where you can join a Human Origins Tour and see where the earliest evidence of modern human behaviour was revealed. You can also visit the Old Post Office Tree which is a very big, old milkwood tree at the Dias Museum complex.
Mossel Bay has 4 Blue Flag beaches and beach-going weather throughout the year. The water is clean and clear and from under the parachute, if you’re lucky, you’ll spot whales, sharks and seals.

Tandem Skydiving in Mossel Bay South Africa is an experience that will stay with you for a lifetime! Not only will you enjoy all of the thrill and excitement of freefalling on your very first jump, but you’ll also be taking an exhilarating scenic flight over the Mossel Bay area with an eagle’s view of the Indian Ocean, Ortanique mountains and beautiful beaches!
We have two landing areas, one at the airfield and one at Diaz beach. Landings at Diaz beach are weather and tide dependant. Thanks to the nature of the tandem skydive, the formal training required can be kept to a minimum as your personal tandem master will control the free fall and the parachute descent. However, there is some information and a set of rules that you need to be familiar with to ensure safety. By educating you about what to expect in the airplane, how to position your body during free-fall and what to expect when the parachute opens, your fears can be eased, and your fun maximized.

When the door finally opens, and you exit the aircraft most of our students say their fears stay in the plane and the feeling they are left with they describe only as indescribable!!! The Tandem Master will be your silent partner, letting you have full control; or you can just lay back and enjoy the ride. Since we’re weightless in free fall, you won’t even notice that the Tandem Master is there. Jumping from up to 10,000 ft or 14,000 ft AGL (Above Ground Level), we’ll free fall at 200 – 240 kph for up to 35-50 seconds. While we “Body Surf” the wind, we can do controlled turns, speed diving, and burn up the sky.
All too quickly you will find the parachute opening and your adrenaline-charged free-fall transitions into a quiet peaceful parachute descent, where you and your instructor can talk and share the moment with you. During the 5-7 minutes it takes to reach the ground your instructor can provide either a sedate gentle ride to the ground or a more radical roller coaster experience demonstrating spins and stalls as he skilfully pilots you to our landing area.

Frequently Asked Questions about Tandem skydiving
What is a tandem skydiving?
A skydive from 10,000 feet or 14,000 feet with a tandem instructor. You are attached to the tandem instructor by a special harness and jump out the plane together. The instructor wears the specifically designed tandem parachute on his back and is in control of the exit and freefall. Once the parachute opens, you can help steer or just relax and enjoy the views while he does all the work.

Is a tandem jump safe?
Although it seems very scary, over the years tandem skydiving in South Africa has evolved and developed leaps and bounds, making it safer than ever before. With advances and additions to equipment like an automatic activation device (AAD), it helps to make it even safer. The instructors also contribute to making it a safer experience. Before a skydiver can become a tandem instructor, he must have a minimum of 800 skydives and undergone extensive training and evaluation approved by the Parachute Association of South Africa. Our instructors have been skydiving for many years with thousands of skydives under their belts, so you will be in good hands.

Will I be afraid?
Probably yes but that’s a natural feeling for someone skydiving for the first time. A bit of nerves are to be expected. Even experienced sport jumpers feel a little afraid just before they exit the plane. It’s part of the adrenalin rush of adventure sports. You will also be excited, delighted, and thrilled.

How does a free fall feel?
Fast and fun. The force of the wind rushing against you as you fall sounds loud and feels like nothing you’ve experienced before. It feels more like flying than falling. Your clothes will be flapping around you, your skin will be quivering, and you’ll probably pull some funny faces.

Can I breathe during a free fall?
Yes. It’s similar to sticking your head out of the car when you’re driving fast. You can scream, laugh or sing. Once the parachute has opened, you’ll be able to have a conversation with the instructor and have a good look around at the beautiful Mossel Bay area.

Will I feel dizzy (fear of heights)?
We have taken many people that are afraid of heights on a tandem skydive that have thoroughly enjoyed the experience. There is no depth perception. It’s more like looking at a Google Earth picture.

How long does it take overall?
Plan to be with us for about two and a half hours. Once you have completed the administration and payment, the instructor will give you a short briefing about some of the safety rules, what to expect in the airplane, how to hold your body during free-fall and what to expect when the parachute opens. Your flight to 10,000 feet is about 20 minutes in our Cessna 182 or about 8 minutes in the super-fast King Air. You’ll freefall for up to 50 seconds and the parachute ride is about 5-7 minutes. After landing it’ll take 15 minutes to edit your video and add it to your customized flash drive.

How quickly do we fall?
120mph or 200 km/ph with drogue fall. Under the parachute, you will gently glide down before landing. You can choose the Extreme Ride option if you prefer more of a rollercoaster ride when the instructor will do some spiral turns under canopy.

What if the parachute does not open?
The tandem instructor, like all skydivers, jumps with two parachutes. If the main parachute doesn’t open, the instructor will deploy the reserve parachute. The reserve parachute is the backup. In the unlikely event that the instructor can’t deploy the reserve, there is a smart computer in the equipment known as an automatic activation device (AAD) that will open the reserve parachute.

Can I jump with my friends?
Each of you will have his or her own personal tandem instructor. Your friend can join you on the same flight, but you will exit the aircraft separately a few seconds apart so that there is a safe distance between you in freefall and under the parachute.

What’s the landing like?
The Tandem Instructor will control the landing and both of you will slide in on your backsides. Sometimes, depending on the conditions, you can also have a stand up landing on your feet. What’s important is to listen to the instructions your instructor gives you while under the parachute.

Can my jump be recorded?
For sure. The Tandem Instructor wears a specially designed glove with two cameras, one for video and for for photographs. We will capture the whole experience from getting into the plane, the flight up, freefall, the parachute ride and landing. We include a few short and fun interviews and music. You can also choose a 3rd Eye Camera which is another qualified skydiver that follows you and the Tandem Instructor out the plane and take footage form a different perspective.

Can I bring my camera or cell phone to the jump?
No. The Basic Safety Requirements of the Parachute Association of South Africa (PASA) stipulate that only a Category II trained skydiver is permitted to carry a camera on a skydive. There are a number of hazards a camera can cause when the parachute opens and for safety reasons, only appropriately trained skydivers, like the Tandem Instructor, will be permitted to take a camera on the skydive.

What is necessary to put on do I wear and what can I take with me?
Wear anything comfortable. You will be given a jumpsuit to wear over your clothes. In the winter months, bring a warm fleece top and gloves. The best shoes are tie up shoes like running shoes. Sandals and slip-on shoes with come off in freefall. Please leave jewellery, ear rings and other trinkets at home.

What if I want to give up after the take-off?
It rarely happens but if you decide that you don’t want to skydive after the aircraft has taken off, you and the Tandem Instructor can land with the plane. No refunds are given if you decide not to skydive after the plane has taken off.

What about weather conditions in skydiving?
Skydiving is weather dependent. The best weather is mild winds and blue skies. If you made a reservation and the weather forecast is not good for skydiving, we’ll let you know. You can either reschedule or if this is not possible, you can cancel the booking. There is no cancellation fee.
