Stormy Hill horse trails is Caroline’s home on the edge of the Drakensberg escarpment where a quaint country cottage accommodates guests and riding holidays are based. Come and relax out on the rides. Explore the local countryside and generally let yourself get away from the hustle and bustle of your daily life. Enjoy a delightful holiday in the conservation corridors of forestry and farmland areas. Here, guests are entertained to a lifestyle experience constituting an introduction to the horses of the hill, hands-on grooming and handling sessions and guided rides in beautiful surroundings.

Outride’s ranging from our paddock ride for half an hour to the more experienced riders summit ride for 2 hours are held at the Pickle Pot cafe. There you can stop for tea or a meal, walk in the indigenous forest and have a horse ride. Stormy Hill Horse Riding Holiday

This is a self catering riding holiday of minimum 3 days. Price Riders – R750 per day. Non riders – R350 per day

Interactive Working Riding Holiday

This is a two week long interactive working riding holiday. (14 nights) R650 per person per night

Country Trail Ride Mini Break … Price R1500 per person

This is a two night two day self catering horse holiday.

Your riding ability

·         Never Ridden= someone who has never ridden a horse, or have only done so once or twice on holiday.

·         Beginner rider = someone who is comfortable in the saddle & can stay on a reliable well school horse.  They can post to the trot (go up and down) and may have cantered a few times = Beginners generally ride once or twice a year on holiday with their partner!

·         Novice rider = someone who is comfortable in the saddle & enjoys a reliable well schooled horse.  They generally ride at a riding school once or twice a month, or like to ride a friend’s horse on the farm.   They can trot comfortably and enjoy a nice controlled canter.

·         Intermediate rider = someone who rides regularly and enjoys a forward going well schooled horse.  They may or may not be a little nervous for the first little bit while they get to know their horse.  They can control their horse independently and is confident trotting and in controlled canters.

·         Advanced Rider = someone who is comfortable on most horses in most situations.  They ride regularly and may or may not have their own horse. They have a good seat and gentle hands. They can ride in light seat, and can hold a strong horse in a fast canter.

Paddock Ride

Price: R100.00 per person participating.

Good for the ‘never ridden’ and ‘beginner’ rider

Finding about the horses different personalities and matching horse to rider..

Going out for an outride into the paddock, This usually takes approximately half an hour.

This gives you an introduction to horse riding and is especially perfect for small children and first time riders.

Hill Ride

Price: R200.00 per person participating.

Good for the ‘beginner, novice, intermediate and advanced’ rider

An outride on the hill. This is tailored for the individual needs and goes at the pace that I think fit for the riders. It normally encompasses going up and down hills and crossing a stream or two. This usually takes approximately one hour.

This is a relaxed ride in open countryside. There is some beautiful scenery and the dogs usually follow along.

Summit Ride

Price: R375.00 per person participating.

Good for the ‘novice, intermediate and advanced’ rider

Feel on top of the world as you summit the ridge.

An outride to the top of the ridge. This is tailored for the individual needs and goes at the pace that I think fit for the riders. It normally encompasses going up and down hills and crossing a stream or two. This usually takes approximately two hours.  You may be asked to dismount and lead your horses depending on the ground conditions in different sections. (Some areas tend to get a bit slippery at times)

This is a relaxed ride in open countryside. There is some beautiful scenery and the dogs usually follow along.
