As we are based in the Stellenbosch Winelands, the Vine Hopper is our unique way of seeing the wine lands and vineyards on your own time without the hassle of driving yourself. We also operate local day tours like our Guided Bike tours, 4×4 wine tours, and guided hikes. We also assist our clients with self-drive itineraries in South Africa and Namibia.

VINE HOPPER SOUTHERN ROUTE
This hop on hop off wine tour operates on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. This route captures the differences between the Estates in Stellenbosch.
With this hop on hop off wine tour, you can visit a variety of wine estates, from the well known bigger estate like Spier with its lakes, restaurants, and Eagle encounters to the smaller privately owned Haskell vineyards with the beautiful Long Table restaurant. You can also experience something different on this route by visiting the Van Ryn Brandy Cellar. Here you can do a Cellar tour where the cooper still practices his ancient art of barrel making. Neethlingshof is well known for its Cape Dutch Architecture and wines. Alto is a must for red wine lovers. At Kleine Zalze you can enjoy award-winning wines with a view over the De Zalze golf course.
Remember, with the Vine Hopper hop on hop off wine tour you can decide how many farms you would like to visit. You make your own pace and are welcome to stay longer at certain farms but please be advised, the later you start the fewer farms you will be able to see.

Neethlingshof
Along with the awe-inspiring manor house, Neethlingshof is steeped in history which dates back to 1705 and distinguished by the beautiful avenue of stone pines.
It’s a place where soil, climate, and vines co-exist in perfect harmony. We’re blessed with 13 distinguishable terroirs and by choosing the correct site; we’ve been able to enhance the natural flavor and aroma of our range of wines. Our estate’s also a member of the Biodiversity & Wine Initiative (BWI), highlighting our commitment to eco-sustainability. 28 ha of the 110 ha wine farm (under vine) is set aside for conservation and the replanting of the indigenous Renosterveld species with the aim of restoring the natural balance and encouraging wildlife, big and small, in this area.

Van Ryn Brandy Cellar
The Van Ryn’s Distillery, housed in a beautifully preserved chateau-like complex on the banks of the Eerste River, is the only brandy distillery in Stellenbosch. Visitors can learn about the origins of Van Ryn’s dating back to 1845. See the burnished copper pot stills and watch a skilled craftsman at work at the one distillery in the country with an on-site cooperage. Find international award winners, with hand-crafted chocolate and coffee.

Spier
Spier, in the heart the famous Cape Winelands, is more than a Wine Estate. It is a destination in itself. The first luxury hotel in South Africa to be Fair Trade in Tourism certified, Spier offers visitors a variety of authentic experiences – from food and wine to outdoor activities – in beautiful surroundings. You can go for a walk through the Cape Raptor world to see some of Africa’s most beautiful birds of Prey.

VINE HOPPER NORTHERN ROUTE

Set on the Simonsberg Mountain slopes, this highly regarded winery has become synonymous with the great Winelands picnics tradition. Join Warwick for their delicious Gourmet Picnics, Big 5 Vineyard Safaris and historic Wines, the perfect ingredients for a memorable, lazy-day-out in wine country. (Please book your picnics in advance for around 14:00 in the busy summer months to avoid disappointment)

Delheim
Seeing Sperling family members flanked by at least one Jack Russell each; watching the geese line up for lunch; marvelling at the vineyards in the foreground of the great Simonsberg mountain; lazing in the garden; sharing the privilege of being in such a beautiful place; sampling delicious wines and receiving a warm and friendly family welcome; these are the things that a visitor to Delheim remembers and this is what makes it “worth the journey”.

Remhoogte
Founded in 1812, Remhoogte (Dutch for ‘Brake Heights’) is situated on the steep South Western slopes of the famous Simonsberg Mountain in Stellenbosch. With the terroir being perfectly suited for the production of top-end red wines the focus is on Bordeaux varietals as well as South Africa’s own Pinotage. On the white wines, the focus is on Chenin Blanc produced from old vines, a cultivar that performs incredibly well in this region. Everything is done by hand in the vineyards and cellar with the help of eight families who live and work on the estate. We have set aside a third of the estate to the Western Capes indigenous flora and fauna.
L’Avenir
L’Avenir Wine Estate is a Stellenbosch boutique specialist of Pinotage and Chenin Blanc – South Africa’s quintessential wine varieties. The Estate is owned by the French leaders of terroir wines, Advini, and produces wines of elegance and finesse; proudly Stellenbosch, with a touch of French flair!
Our winemaker, Dirk Coetzee, celebrated his 10 vintages at L’Avenir in 2018 and has gained a reputation as a leader in modern Pinotage. VINE HOPPER EASTERN ROUTE
The Eastern Route wine tour in Stellenbosch operates every day Monday to Friday and showcases some of the best wine tastings in Stellenbosch. Experience the splendor of the Helshoogte pass and it’s wine farms on this tour.

Lanzerac
Lanzerac Wine Estate, established in 1692, is one of the oldest wine farms in the Cape. It is an iconic cellar with a rich history and a worldwide reputation for well-crafted quality wines. The grand old lady of Stellenbosch’s eastern suburbs, Lanzerac’s splendidly restored Cape Dutch farmstead and werf are home to a luxury resort hotel offering a quintessential Winelands experience at the gateway of the Jonkershoek valley. The winemaking is now concentrating on Jonkershoek as a defined area of origin. Lanzerac is home to the world’s first bottled Pinotage in 1961 and you can enjoy this wine and many more with this wine tasting in Stellenbosch. At the tasting room, you can opt for a normal wine tasting or enjoy a chocolate and wine pairing.

Neil Ellis
Neil is one of the doyens of the South African wine industry. Camberley
Beneath the majestic Groot Drakenstein mountain range, lies a boutique wine farm. With just over five acres of vineyards, Camberley is neatly situated between the towns of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, just outside of Cape Town. The warm and optimistic approach at Camberley is welcoming and gracious. The Fine wines coupled with exquisite gardens and views, lead to a truly majestic setting for an intimate wine tasting experience of Stellenbosch wines.

Zorgvliet
At Zorgvliet we believe in elegance in wine and that the consumer should be able to taste the unique terroir of the Banhoek valley in every sip of Zorgvliet’s wines! Boschendal
Founded in 1685, Boschendal is one of the oldest wine estates in South Africa, surrounded by the dramatic mountainous landscape of the Drakenstein Valley. At the center of the estate is the Cape Dutch style Manor House, a historical monument which is open for visitors daily from 9.30 to 17h00. Boschendal also caters for different lunch options with the Werf Restaurant, a Deli, and Picnic baskets. Gardens and play areas make this estate a great family destination.

With this pass, you can visit any of our 3 routes and the pass is valid for 1 month, meaning you do not have to do it in consecutive days.

To book your wine tour in Stellenbosch, please choose one of the routes which you would like to do. Once you go to the online availability page, you will have an option to tick a box which states: Click to buy 2 Day Pass. You will then pay for the 2-day pass and can add in the notes which date and route you would like to do for your second day.

Routes available are the Southern Route which runs Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, the Northern Route which runs on Monday Wednesday and Friday or the Eastern Route, which operates every weekday Monday to Friday.

By far the cheapest and best way to experience Stellenbosch and its wine routes.
On each route on the 2 Day Wine tour Stellenbosch you have an option of at least 3 farms where you could have lunch. From picnic baskets to more formal restaurants with fantastic meals and views to go with it.
Each farm on the route also is unique in it’s tasting offering and it might be worth your while to research the farms on each of the routes if you are a serious wine connoisseur and would like to taste something specific.
