We hope to hear from you soon. Kayak Training:
So you want to start kayaking? Whether you have never seen water before or you are a seasoned river runner, Whitewater Training offers a course appropriate to improving your skills. Our knowledgeable trainers will ensure you are safe while developing your expertise. Whitewater Training is a river-based specialty training center; all our instructors are African Paddling Association (APA) registered (and perhaps over-qualified to teach). Most of our training is held just 100km from Johannesburg, on the Vaal River in Parys, Free State, but we also do training at other venues.

We offer a Beginner’s Kayak School, which combines basic river skills with some rolling and strokes, providing an all-in-one package to begin your kayaking pleasure. Afterwards, an individual Rolling Clinic will help you to perfect your roll, or you can even learn to roll from scratch at this clinic. The Strokes Clinic is specially designed to help you perfect your strokes. We also provide Freestyle Clinics, where you can learn all the skills you need to compete in regular rodeo competitions.

For paddlers who want to start exploring the many suitable rivers, a Creeking course will help you understand the more advanced concepts of whitewater paddling. We also strongly recommend the Swiftwater Rescue course, so you and your friends can stay safe and enjoy many happy years of paddling.

Use the links on the left to find the course that is right for you. Then check out the calendar to see where and when the next course will take place. If you don’t see any dates or venues that suit your group, please contact us to discuss arranging another date and venue.

River Guide Training:
Rafting and other water-based activities have become tremendously popular in recent years. Whitewater Training offers an APA certified River Guide Course where you can learn the proper skills needed to work with clients in a professional and safe manner. Whilst completing your 20 river days training, before the practical and theoretical Evaluations, you must also complete a First Aid course. Trip Leader is the highest guiding qualification you can achieve and it will enable you to lead commercial trips.

Swiftwater Rescue:
Whitewater Training offers a wide variety of Rescue Courses to either further your education as a guide or offer a piece of mind on your next big adventure. These courses will enable you to help your teammates, friends, clients and most importantly, yourself.

All of Whitewater Training’s Swift water Rescue Courses focus on the skills and knowledge needed to identify and prevent hazards on the river. This course will begin by teaching the student to look after oneself, and progress to being an assertive leader in any rescue situation. Anyone looking to experience the thrills of whitewater or teach other less experienced boaters should continually reassess their swift water rescue and first aid ability.

The Recreational Rescue course caters for recreational river users, kayakers, crocers, adventure racers, rafters, and tubers. It will teach you the basic rescue strategies needed for everyday situations. We also offer rescue courses for Professionals where you will learn the more advanced type of rescue strategies.
