Chartered flights and Training!
Chartered flights for special occasions or sight seeing based in Durban! Stimulate your project with AV8.
The Eastern Cape and former Transkei region is known for its bad roads, but AV8 Helicopters can get to those remote places quickly and safely, saving you that most precious and un-replaceable commodity: time.
We’ll save you money as well! We only charge for the time from engine start-up to shutdown, and not for the time on the ground. So if, for example, you fly for half an hour to a destination and have a two hour meeting before flying the half an hour return journey, AV8 Helicopters will only invoice you for the one hour of flight time.
We can source specific helicopters to suit your needs, including helicopters with two crew and twin engines.
In addition to private charters, Wild Coast flights, flying lessons and hour-building, AV8 Helicopters is licensed, experienced and equipped to perform the following air services:
· Advertising operations (e.g. banner flying)
· Aerial patrol, air observation and aerial survey work
· Agricultural spraying, seeding and crop dusting
· Emergency air rescue, medivac & medical services (including the provision of casualty equipment and medical personnel)
· Fire spotting, fire control and fire fighting
· Game and livestock selection, culling, counting and herding
· Undersling and winching/hoisting operations
Vital Information: The price quoted for each destination is for a return trip and includes the pilot and three passengers. If you have more than three people traveling, we can easily customise a flight to suit your particular requirements.
All dependant on which destination you choose.
Whether you're a VIP needing to get somewhere urgently or a photographer requiring an aerial platform from which to film, if you're looking for the ideal way to start your Wild Coast holiday, or simply want to go for an affordable flight in a chopper with your mates, AV8 can supply you with just the thing!
Available 365 Days a year
Prices include the Charters dependant on the destination, please enquire for training prices or VIP trips.

Scope of our Work
AV8 Helicopters was hired by the Auditor-General to complete an audit of schools in the Eastern Cape. The helicopters were necessary, because some areas were impossible to get to by road. Over the eighteen-day period, two Jet Rangers flew over 186 hours visiting 180 schools.
Many of our students who have obtained their PPL’s are now able to pursue various aspects of business in many areas of the Eastern Cape by hiring a helicopter from us.
AV8 Helicopters are often used to assist architects and builders involved in community upliftment projects, like water schemes, in the planning and inspection of sites.
One of AV8 Helicopters’ regular clients is a property developer who insists on seeing an aerial view of any new potential development before any decisions are made with regard to purchasing, planning and development.
AV8 Helicopters trains local pilots for both private and commercial licenses. We provide operational training to Defence Force helicopter pilots from a number of South Africa’s neighbouring countries. The following ICAO flight training courses and ratings are available from AV8 Helicopters:
· Student Pilot Licence
· Private Pilot Licence
· Commercial Pilot Licence
· Airline Transport Pilot Licence
· Night Rating
· Sling Rating
· Game / Livestock / Cull Rating
· Instrument Rating
· Instructors Rating
· Robinson R44 Conversion
· Turbine Conversion / Alouette III Conversion / AS350 B2 Conversion
· Mountain Flying Training
· Fire Bucket Training
At AV8 Helicopters, we believe that learning to fly should be fun. We try at all times to use training methods that make the course enjoyable.
Our hangars are at East London Airport and a large percentage of the training is completed on the airport grounds. This allows for accelerated progress, because time spent travelling to and from the general flying area is minimal.
Although East London Airport is in controlled airspace and caters for both scheduled and unscheduled traffic, it is not a very busy airport. This is an ideal training environment as it allows the student to learn to fly in controlled airspace with student-friendly air-traffic controllers.
The Eastern Cape’s seaside city of East London is the ideal location to build helicopter hours!
East London airport offers a relaxed flying environment because, despite being controlled airspace, it is not very busy. The fabulous scenery of the Eastern Cape and Wild Coast is your playground, with many exciting malaria-free game parks to fly to, while the climate ensures that you can enjoy sunny weather and good flying conditions throughout the year.
We also offer accommodation and transport as part of your package together with your hour-building program, if required.
We regularly fly engineers, architects and developers to reconnoitre, visit and inspect projects all around the Eastern Cape. Sites are often remote and difficult to access by road, making helicopters essential for assessing possible sites for projects as well as following up on a project’s progress
Once you’ve compared the costs of driving versus flying in terms of time, petrol and other resources, you’ll find that hiring an AV8 Helicopter provides excellent value for money. In addition to those savings you’ll be able to access areas and gain a view of your project that would be impossible by road.

The AV8 Fleet
Our core business is carried out with a fleet of R22 Beta IIs, R44 Ravel IIs, Alouette IIIs and an AS350 B2, based at East London Airport in the Eastern Cape. Over the last ten years, we have operated various aircraft around South Africa, including Pumas, Bell L3 and L4 long-rangers, Bell 206 Jet Rangers, BO 105s, AS 350 Bs, and AS 350 BAs for once-off, annual and seasonal contracts.
R22 Beta II
The Robinson R22 Beta II is a very popular two-seat, single engine helicopter. It holds performance records in both speed and distance, and can reach a high cruise speed up to 110 mph. No other helicopter in its class can match its speed, reliability, and low operating costs. It is a good choice for flight training, radio traffic watch, survey work, and other applications that require performance, dependability, efficiency, and easy maintenance.
R44 Raven II
The Raven II is a single engine helicopter that produces substantially more power than many other helicopters and gives greater altitude performance, more payload, and increased speed. One of the Robie 44’s key features is the reduced noise level of approximately one decibel at the 500-foot flyover. Also, the main rotor blades have more surface area for increased lifting capability at altitude, which reduces vibration. You can be assured of a good starting performance in hot or cold weather with the Raven II.
Eurocpter EC120 Colibri (French Hummingbird)
The EC120 is a 5 -seat, single engine light helicopter with a fenestron tail rotor, making it a particularly quiet helicopter. The wide cabin featuring excellent visibility, makes it suitable for a wide variety of uses, such as utility and offshore transport, training, law enforcement and casualty evacuation as well as corporate transport and, of course, sight-seeing!
AS350 B2 Ecureuil Squirrel
The AS350 is a single engine helicopter known for its high performance, safety and reduced operating costs. It is a very sought-after helicopter as it can perform a wide range of missions, including passenger transport, aerial work, and fire fighting. Its roomy and comfortable cabin can accommodate up to seven passengers. The AS350 B2 is also an excellent utility helicopter and can carry under-slung loads of up to 1160kg. The AS350 is therefore well suited to all missions requiring various types of equipment, as well as medical evacuations, and security work.
The Aérospatiale Alouette III is a single engine, light utility helicopter developed by Sud Aviation. Helicopter manufacturer, Aérospatiale of France, built approximately 2000 of them in the 1960s. They were primarily used by the French Armed Forces, the Indian Air Force, the Lebanese Air Force and the South African Air Force. The Alo III is known for its mountain rescue capabilities and adaptability. ‘Alouette’ is the French word for ‘Skylark’. The Alouette III is a seven-seat helicopter, which caters for the pilot and six passengers.
