Papiesfontein is found 10km outside of Jeffreys Bay and 70km from Port Elizabeth. The farm is situated right between the Gamtoos and Kabeljous rivers. The trail rides are available from Monday to Sunday, and closed only on Christmas and New Years Day. The riding company is run by the owners of Papiesfontein farm, Frankie and Esré Lötter since 1996. The beach rides have become a well-known attraction of Jeffreys Bay, with tourists from all over the world partaking in the outrides along the pristine beaches.
The riding trail covers a distance of approximately 13km, with half of the ride comprising of an open stretch where riders can gallop freely along the beach, or take it at a slow pace if preferred. The trail also comprises of a tour through the fynbos coastal vegetation and past the Gamtoos River, as well as through sand dunes and in the shallow waters of the warm Indian Ocean.
Beach Horse Trails Papiesfontein provide equipment such as helmets and chaps. Beginners, intermediate and advanced riders are welcome, and will be aided to the extent that is necessary. Advanced riders have the opportunity to go on unguided tours, provided that you have enough experience and are competent enough to handle a bucking, rearing horse on your own, if necessary. The 55 horses that are available are all well-trained, obedient and good-natured. The Beach Horse Trails company breed their own horses and crossbreed between the Boerperd and Scottish highland pony.

Different bookings are to be made for riders of different experience levels. Although riders will have the same departure time, more experienced riders will be given horses that complement their skills, and the group will be split into different categories based on the level of experience of the riders.
Weather is a factor that may influence the trails, however, rides will still happen in most weather conditions. If it is raining on the day of your booked ride, and you would like to change your time-slot, please do so as soon as possible.
Don’t forget to bring your camera along, as well as a bottle of water and some Sunblock.
