Your home away from home, Motlala (meaning spoor or footprint) is our flagship camp. Famed for its warmth and hospitality, its unparalleled intimacy and seclusion are sure to make its mark on you too.
With six beautifully appointed, air-conditioned suites, each one with its own private veranda, Motlala offers luxury accommodation for families and small groups.
A magnificent outdoor area, complete with a sparkling blue pool, makes the perfect setting for you to sit back and relax while soaking up the ambiance of all that Motlala has to offer.
From candlelit open-air dinners for two to sociable gatherings around the fire, this is Africa at its finest.
Nestled in the shade of indigenous riverine trees, on the banks of the Mazaiembangi River, Nyati Pools tented self-catering camp offers comfortable, rustic accommodation for a real African adventure.
Five canvas tents, each with their own private deck, are furnished with two single beds. Two separate bathrooms with shower, toilet, and basin, are hidden amongst the tents, while a fully equipped kitchen is situated outside under a thatched dining area, next to the fire pit and a swimming pool. A hide above the building offers a bird’s eye view of the water’s edge and the surrounding trees and birdlife.
Nyati tented camp brings you close to the sights and sounds of the African wild. Lying in your bed at night, gently serenaded by the sounds of the bushveld you may wonder what the next day in Africa has in store for you as you drift into a wild African dream.
Located on the Eastern border of the vast Buffaloland, Giraffe Camp offers a relaxed bushveld experience.
Comfortable, air-conditioned suites all have full en-suite bathrooms and kitchens, making it ideal for those wanting a self-catering option, while our wonderful staff will take care of the rest.
Overlooking a large central lawn shaded by majestic indigenous trees, the slow rhythm of Africa will enter your soul, encouraging you to do nothing more than relax by the pool or take a slow stroll down to the bird-hide at the edge of the dam for a unique opportunity to observe nature undetected.
Giraffe camp also features a largely enclosed boma tucked away in the bush, where wooden canvas chairs are your front row seat to take in the beauty of the star-strewn sky in silence, or if you’re in the mood for something a bit more sociable, a large central campfire draws you together and invites you to share your stories at the end of each day.
GAME DRIVES & BUSH WALKS
Up Close & Personal
Early morning or late afternoon game drives and walks are a wonderful experience for all. Request a game drive or join a bush walk with one of our rangers who will be happy to take you and your group, in an open vehicle or on foot, to take in all that Buffaloland has to offer.
Home to the Big Four, including buffalo, rhino, leopard and lion, Buffaloland also boasts hyena, zebra, giraffe, kudu, blue wildebeest, impala, warthog, nyala, waterbuck and many other other smaller species such as duiker, meerkat, steenbok and more making for an unforgettable African safari.
The hidden treasure of Buffaloland, of course, is our rare white lions. Discovered in 1975 when two tiny “white” lion cubs were born in the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve nearby, their arrival caused a stir. Creamy white with either golden or blue eyes, the whiteness is caused by a recessive gene and is not albino-ism. Sadly, the last free-roaming white lion was killed in 1993, but the gene is still seen in the area as very pale golden lions roam the territory. There is always great excitement, however, when a pale lioness is pregnant and the cubs are eagerly awaited.
BIRDING & PHOTOGRAPHIC SAFARIS
A Photographer’s Dream
In birding terms, South Africa is a must for both the avid world lister and the leisure birder. Buffaloland, in particular, makes for an especially exciting photographic safari destination with more than 350 different species of birds, including the Lappet-faced Vulture, Martial Eagle, Saddle-billed Stork, Kori Bustard and Southern Ground Hornbill making their homes in the natural savannah grasslands.
With the Klaserie River flowing through the farm, we are privileged to attract an abundance of birdlife to this life-giving water source and a number of photographic hides provide a unique opportunity to get that perfect shot. In fact, the bird photography seen in this brochure was shot by Philippe Vastapane (the owner), an avid twitcher and bird photographer himself.
Designed with your particular interests in mind, our birding and photographic safaris are lead by our highly experienced guides who promise sought after endemic sightings and fascinating local observations about the birds and their habitats.
