Tandem Paragliding Flights Cape TownTandem paragliding flights are mostly done from Lions Head or Signal Hill inside the beautiful Table Mountain National Park. Tandem paragliding flights generally last anything from 7 to 20 minutes, unfortunately the time spent in the air cannot be guaranteed as we are totally reliant on the weather conditions on the day. Here at Fly Cape Town Paragliding we love to paraglide and your pilot will stay in the air with you for as long as possible.Our landing fields are either at the Camps Bay High school sports field in front of the Bungalow restaurant or at the Seapoint promenade in front of the Winchester Mansions. The landing area depends on the general wind direction on the day.
Paragliding in-flight Photography & VideoYour pilot is equipped with a wide angle digital camera that is mounted on an extendable monopod. During your tandem flight your pilot will capture not only the breathtaking views but your smile as well. After the flight you can choose to purchase the in flight photos and video. Paragliding Training Courses Cape Town
Learning to paraglide with Fly Cape Town Paragliding is easy, safe and lots of fun!
The minimum age requirement to start a paragliding training course with us is 16 but you can only get your license when you are 17 years old. Anyone can learn to fly; we have given paragliding lessons to people from the ages of 16 to 65 years old.
You will be taught in a safe environment under the supervision of expert instructors who will be in constant radio contact with you via a two-way radio.
You will attend in depth theory classes teaching you everything you need to know to become a safe paragliding pilot. Our training courses are structured around the learning capabilities of each individual student.
The courses can be done in consecutive days or stretched over a period of a few months.
Introduction to paragliding training course
Duration – 2 Days
You will spend your first day getting familiarized with the paragliding equipment. We will practice ground handling techniques on a field and once you are competent with inflating the paraglider and keeping it above your head we will move to a small training hill. On the training hill you will do your first ground skimming paragliding flights. Once you are familiar with taking off and landing we will proceed to your first altitude flight. After completion of the Introduction to Paragliding course you may choose to continue with your Basic Paragliding license course.
Basic paragliding license course
Duration – 14 Days
We will teach you how to become a safe, competent basic license paragliding pilot. You will do a minimum of 35 flights which includes ridge soaring and Thermalling. The course also includes a series of theory classes and you will have to complete a written examination paper before you are licensed.
Introduction to safety in paragliding flight simulation course
Duration – 1 Day
You will be flying on a tandem paraglider with one of our highly experienced instructors. The instructor will simulate all the manoeuvres as required in your Sports License rating with you in the air. You are welcome to try inducing the manoeuvres from the front in the passenger seat. Your instructor will explain to you in the detail how the paraglider will react in each individual manoeuvre.
Safety in paragliding flight simulation course
Duration – 2 Days
The Safety in Paragliding flight Simulation course consists of the all manoeuvres as required in your Sports license rating. We will conduct SIV training over a lake or a dam. Here you will be winched up with a boat and will induce all the manoeuvres yourself under the safe instruction of a qualified SIV instructor via a two way radio.
Sports paragliding license course
Duration – 2 Days
The Sports Paragliding license course will take you to next level of your paragliding flying. You will attend in depth theory classes on meteorology, weather, safe decision making and assessment of flying conditions at paragliding sites. We will cover all of the safety manoeuvres and a series of theory classes. You will have to complete a written examination paper before achieving your Sports rating.
Cross country paragliding training course
Duration – 2 Days
Here we will hone your skills. We will focus on Thermalling techniques, decision making in the air, choosing the right lines and getting you further in your XC paragliding flights. You can choose to either fly with the instructor on a tandem paraglider or fly solo under close observation of an instructor flying a solo paraglider as well with you in the air.
Introduction to aerobatic manoeuvres
Duration – 1 Day
On the introduction to Aerobatic manoeuvres you will fly with an instructor on the tandem paraglider. The instructor will teach you the basis of all aerobatic manoeuvres, namely Wing Over’s. You can choose to also do Spiral dives and the SAT. After the instructor has taken you through all the steps on the manoeuvres you would like to learn, you can take the controls from the front seat. The instructor will talk you through every single step, entering the manoeuvre, control and exit of the manoeuvre.
Fly Cape Town Paragliding offers expert Guided Paragliding Tour packages.
Our expert Guided Paragliding Tours varies from single day trips to one, two or three week tours.
Normally the best conditions for paragliding tours are from October to April. Our paragliding tours packages include airport transfers, bed and breakfast accommodation, and transport to and from take-off sites, weather forecast and expert site briefings. We do also offer SIV training and ground handling clinics as optional extras.
Guided Paragliding Tours packages are tailored to the specific needs and experience levels of all pilots or groups. Radio instruction (if required) is available from our expert Guides / Instructors. We plan the tour around the local weather patterns. Cape Town offers a mixture of coastal soaring to thermic cross country conditions. Cape Town is surrounded by the beautiful Winelands of Constantia and landmarks like Table Mountain and Cape Point. On non-flyable days we have the option to go wine tasting in the wine regions of Franschhoek and Stellenbosch or go for a scenic site seeing drive along the magnificent coastline to Cape Point and Hout Bay.
Our very reliable XC site is Porterville where we have hosted a Paragliding World Cup in February 2013. The site record is 170km and this is the Mecca of Cross Country paragliding in South Africa. Here the XC hungry pilots can clock up the kilometres or the lower experience level pilots can work on perfecting their Thermalling skills and technique.
The Garden Route offers easy relaxed coastal soaring with some spectacular views of white sandy beaches and the warm Indian Ocean. Come brush up your ground handling skills with our optional Expert Ground handling clinics or enjoy soaring the beautiful 12km stretch of beach at Paradise ridge. Sedgefield offers a combination of thermic soaring and short XC flights are possible as well as connecting them to coastal soaring sites like Gericke’s Point and the Beach Hotel.
On non-flyable days we have the option to visit Cape Addo Elephant Park where you can witness the Big 5 in its splendour or visit the beautiful town Knysna.

R1300 per person per flight.
• How do I get my in flight pictures and video?
Your pilot will give you a re-usable SD memory card directly after the flight has been completed.
• Where do we paraglide from?
We will paraglide from either Lions Head or Signal Hill depending on the weather conditions on the day.
• What do I need to bring with?
A bottle of water, sunscreen lotion and a camera if you wish to take your own photos.
• How do we pay?
Due to the nature of our business we prefer to only take payment in cash after the flight has been done. If you wish to pay in advance, you can either do an EFT or pay via our PayPal account.
• How do I get to Cape Town?
There are numerous airlines operating flights to Cape Town, both internationally (BA, Virgin, KLM, Emirates, Qatar Airways, Turkish Airlines & Lufthansa) and locally (Kulula, British Airways, SAA & Mango).
• How much does in flight photography and video cost?
R300 per person per flight (optional).
• Where do we meet?
We will either meet at the Lions Head parking lot on Signal Hill drive or at the Signal Hill car parking lot depending on the weather conditions on the day.
• How do we get back to our car?
We will take you from the landing field (The Bungalow, Clifton or Winchester Mansions, Seapoint) back up to our original meeting point.
• How long will the paragliding flight last?
The turnaround time for the whole experience is about one hour. The actual flight time depends on the weather conditions on the day. Flights generally last anything from seven to twenty minutes.
• Can we fly from other paragliding sites?
Yes, we can fly from other paragliding sites on request. Other paragliding sites we fly from include Hermanus, Betty’s Bay, Maccassar, Sir Lowry’s Pass, Franschhoek, Paarl Rock, Noordhoek and Kommetjie.
• Where can I stay in Cape Town?
