Where People & Nature Meet
There are a lot of activities to do at Tierkloof like hiking, canoeing, fishing, kayaking. Come and have a great day at the dam, only for Tierkloof camping and 4x4 customers.
You’d be correct in expecting a steep rocky ascent and descent at Tierkloof, but the surprise sting in the tail is the soft sand challenge.
Although the trail covers only 12km, there is plenty to keep off-road adventurers amused, starting with a rocky climb that will be a sweaty-palmed, white-knuckled experience for rookies and a challenge for seasoned campaigners. The fun begins almost immediately after you turn off the main road, with a 5km mountain ascent littered with huge boulders and a gap between looming rocks where marshalling is recommended.
Your reward on reaching the Bloukop view site +/- 780 meters high, a magnificent panorama over Brandvlei Dam towards Worcester.
Taking another route down the mountain will confront you with a deep dive into a normally dry riverbed, some sandy sections and finally Tierkloof’s sting in the tail, a daunting but safe climb in deep, soft sand that is very hard on normal road pressures.
