Paragliding Instruction & Tandem Flights
Wallend-Air Paragliding School was established in 1987 by Pete Wallenda, originally from Germany, and he’s been promoting the sport in South Africa ever since. We offer introduction tandem flights, paragliding courses, and events and the company has evolved into developing and manufacturing the popular pull-up student glider, carry clinches and a harness that is currently in development. We’ve partnered with Gelvenor Textiles and are excited to launch our full-size and speed wings soon. Besides making our own equipment we are agents for various quality international brands and we’re the official agent for Swing in South Africa. As an approved glider service center in Africa, we strive to provide quality service and excellent after sales care. We love what we do.
If there is an amount outstanding on the day of your flight, please bring cash. If you have paid the full amount in advance and we can’t fly due to the weather conditions, we will refund you in full.

For a tandem - A flight’s duration depends on the weather and the distance traveled. Normal flights are between 5-20 minutes long. Cross-country flights can last for 45 minutes or more. The introductory course is 2 days and the basic license course is 9 days.
If you weigh less than 120kg you are eligible for a tandem paragliding experience. Children should ideally weigh more than 20kg and they need parental consent.
We can arrange for three pilots per group. This means that you and your loved one, friends or family can all fly at the same time and share the experience.
It can be quite cool in the air so rather dress warmly in closed shoes to protect your feet at uneven take-off sites.
There is room for spectators to sit comfortably and watch, but you just might be sd that you are missing out so get on out there and experience the flight!
All bookings need to be made in advance so we can be sure our pilots are available.

The first step in learning to paraglide is to go on a tandem flight with a fully qualified pilot. This is the best way to see what it’s all about and it’s a great introduction to the world of paragliding. The Cape is world-renowned for its scenic beauty and it will take your photo album to the next level. The tandem glider is specifically designed for two people and requires a different flying skill to solo flying. The passenger or student is strapped into the harness in front of the tandem instructor. All our pilots are SAHPA certified and TFI (Tandem Flight Instructor) licensed.
TAKE-OFF AND LANDING INSTRUCTIONS
Take-offs require that you assist the pilot by staying on your feet while doing a little run. When you are instructed to run, keep running until you’re running in the air. Often the glider comes back down for a bit more running before finally being airborne. The amount of running required depends on the strength of the wind at the time of your flight. Only get into your seat when you are told to do so.
Safety precautions and equipment include helmets, harnesses with back protection, reserve parachutes, careful pre-flight checks and pre-launch observation by the TFI pilot. It can be dangerous but Wallend-Air School of Paragliding has been around since 1989 and you are in good hands with our very experienced TFI pilots. You will also be briefed before your flight.
Situated at the foothills of the Outeniqua Mountains between the Kaaimans River and the Goukamma Nature Reserve, Wilderness is a quaint seaside village known for its superb long beaches and warm blue water where dolphins are often seen frolicking in the waves. There is also a large selection of restaurants and nightlife for those who still have the energy to go out after an action-packed day. There are also plenty of good craft and food markets to stock up on supplies.
