elephant in the river
Day 1: Knysna
Day 2: Addo Elephant Park
Day 3: Scotia Private Game Reserve
Day 4: Jeffrey’s Bay
Day 5: Cape Town ( Transfer day )
Depart from Cape Town and travel over Sir Lowrey’s Pass to the town of Swellendam. Here we stop for a morning break. Swellendam is one of the oldest towns in South Africa filled with history and culture. Our next stop will be at the Bungee jumping bridge over the Garitz River. Here we watch the brave and have the opportunity to Bungee ourselves. We arrive in Knysna early afternoon and spend the rest of the day exploring the town. We visit the Knysna Heads (the large cliff entrance to the Knysna lagoon), the waterfront and time dependant take a stroll in the Knysna forest. We are accommodated in a backpackers for the evening.
After breakfast we depart from Knysna to the National Addo Elephant Park. On route we make a short stop and visit “big tree”. This is a large yellow wood standing tall above the canopy of the rest of the forest. Very impressive and makes us wonder how long have the trees been living here. We make another stop at the Bloukrans River bridge. Here one can also view or take part in the 216m Bungee jump (at ones own expense). We arrive at Addo National Park early afternoon and after settling in we spend the rest of the afternoon and early evening game viewing. That evening we spend listening to the sounds of the wild while we enjoy dinner around the campfire.
We wake to the smells of nature and enjoy breakfast. A short game drive is in order before we travel to our next destination. This is a private game reserve called Schotia Safaris. Here we are welcomed by our host and climb aboard the specialized open game viewing vehicles and depart on a game drive. Our guides are very informative and have many stories and facts to tell us. They love questions, so don’t feel shy to ask.
We all return to the ‘Boma’ (thatch enclosure) to enjoy an afternoon snack. Comparing who saw what and how many animals we have seen so far. Later that afternoon we depart again on the open vehicles and go on an evening/night game drive. This always proves to be a highlight of the tour. The evening dinner is enjoyed back at the ‘boma’ before we head of to bed after an exciting day.
Breakfast is enjoyed and after our farewells to our hosts we travel back towards the coast. Destination, Jeffrey’s Bay. Here we spend the rest of the day exploring the clothing factory shops, participating in optional activities or relaxing on the beach. We spend the evening at a backpacker where the evening programme is always festive.
We start our journey back to Cape Town along the Garden Route visiting farm stalls and places of interest along the way. Our estimated time of arrival back in Cape Town is 18H00.
Namibia Tours and Safaris
The Republic of Namibia is a vast, sparsely populated country situated along the South Atlantic coast of Africa and lies between 17 and 29 degrees south of the Equator. Namibia is the 31st largest country in the world with a surface area of 824 268 square kilometers. It stretches for about 1 400 km from south to north and varies from 480 to 930 km in width from west to east.
South West Africa, now known as Namibia, is bordered by South Africa in the south, Angola and Zambia in the north and Botswana and Zimbabwe in the east. The Namib Desert which is the oldest desert in the world, stretches along the entire west coast of the country, while the Kalahari Desert runs along its south-eastern border with Botswana.
Dominant tourist area’s are: Namib Naukluft and Sossusvlei in the south- west, the colonial coastal town of Swakopmund in the west, Damaraland situated north of Swakopmund off the Skeleton Coast and Etosha National Park in the north. The ‘pan-handle’ of land sandwiched between Angola and Botswana is known as the Caprivi Strip. Windhoek is the Capital City and is very well connected to the rest of Southern Africa by means of daily flights and an excellent road network.
English is the official language, but Namibia’s relatively small population is extraordinarily diverse in language and culture. More than 11 languages are indigenous to Namibia but with its cosmopolitan society, languages from around the world are spoken in Namibia. People commonly speak two or three languages and more than 50% of the population speak Oshiwambo. Due to the country’s colonial history, Afrikaans is the language of the previous South African occupiers and is still widely spoken. Namibia has a small number of Khoisan speaking people, known as the Bushmen or San.
The Constitution of the Republic of Namibia is the fundamental law of the country which recognizes the inherent dignity, equal and inalienable human rights of all members of the Namibian society. It provides for a sovereign, secular, democratic and unitary State founded on the principle of democracy and the rule of law.
